Arklow Shipping makes it Five National Titles in a Row

The Band were triumphant once again last weekend (17^th April 2004), where they retained their Senior National Brass Band title at the Notre Dame College in Dublin. This was the bands fifth time in a row to win the Senior National Title and they have now won it 10 times in the last 12 years.

With stiff competition from Drogheda, Stedfast and Lourdes brass bands, the band emerged as winners, with a mark of 89, four points clear of the first runner up. The band now qualify to represent Ireland in Gronningen, The Netherlands next May in the 2005 European Brass Band Championships.

Adjudicator, Denis Wilby said of test piece 'Resurgam' by Eric Ball that it was a 'fantastic test piece when it was written and still is today, demanding great musicianship to play'.

With less than two weeks left to their fifth appearance in the European Championships in Glasgow, the Arklow band are hoping to improve on their runner up place last year in Bergen, Norway.

The band will be holding an 'Open Rehearsal' in Arus Lorcain in Arklow on this Sunday 25th April at 3pm. All are welcome to attend and we would urge you to drop in and listen to the program the Band has prepared for this prestigious competition.
